Long Beach, California (November 3, 2019) – The 3-year-old boy who was struck alongside his parents on Halloween night in Long Beach has died, the authorities confirmed on Saturday.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 10 p.m. October 31, in the area of Country Club Drive and Los Cerritos Park Place.
The authorities said 30-year-old Joseph Awaida, 32-year-old Raihan Dakhil, and their son 3-year-old Omar were walking in the area when they were struck by a southbound 2002 Toyota Sequoia driven by 20-year-old Carlo Navarro.
The three pedestrians were seriously injured in the accident and were transported to local hospitals. Sadly, Awaida died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment.
Omar is reported to have succumbed to his internal injuries
Dakhil was hospitalized with severe spinal injuries and broken bones.
Navarro was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into Long Beach City Jail.
No further information was provided.
An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is ongoing.
