Hanford, California (October 25, 2019) – A Hanford woman was killed in a pedestrian accident that occurred in Hanford on Thursday night.
According to a local news source, the accident happened at about 10:40 p.m. October 24, on Jackson Avenue near 12th Avenue.
The authorities said a 36-year-old Hanford man was driving a 2003 GMC Envoy westbound on the roadway when he came upon a dog that was crossing the roadway.
The driver swerved off the roadway to avoid hitting the dog but struck a 53-year-old woman who was standing on the shoulder of the roadway.
The vehicle is reported to have continued and overturned after the striking the pedestrian.
The woman sustained major injuries and was transported to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford for treatment where she later died while undergoing treatment.
The identity of the woman was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
No further information was provided.
An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is underway.
