Kings County, California (October 18, 2019) – The woman who was killed in a fatal head-on collision in Kings County on Friday morning was identified as a female correction officer from Hanford.
The accident happened on Avenal Cutoff Road near Gale Avenue at about 6:25 a.m.
As per the report, 41-year-old Veronica Avalos, a corrections officer at Avenal State Prison, was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Avenal Cutoff Road when she collided head-on with a second car.
One of the cars reportedly caught fire after the collision.
Avalos was killed in the collision.
The driver of the second vehicle, Ricardo Jesus Vega who works at Pleasant Valley State Prison, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
No further information was provided.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
