Gilroy, California (September 24, 2019) – The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has disclosed the identity of a Gilroy man who was killed in a car accident in Gilroy on Sunday night.
According to a local news source, the fatal collision occurred at about 8:30 p.m. September 22, on Highway 152 near Bloomfield Avenue.
A tractor-trailer and two other vehicles were involved in the collision. However, the manner in which the collision occurred was not immediately established.
51-year-old Gonzalo Hernandez-Mendez was driving a Toyota eastbound on the roadway and was about to make a turn when his car was struck by big rig driven by 53-year-old Robert T. Ezra.
A third vehicle was also involved in the collision.
Hernandez-Mendez was killed in the collision.
Ezra, a resident of Union City, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Four other people were hospitalized with moderate injuries. The four were identified as 11-year-old Alysha Flowers, 12-year-old Sophi Davi, 50-year-old Joseph Davi and 49-year-old Deborah Davi.
The roadway was closed for about four hours to facilitate an on-scene investigation.
