Immigration Reform Not On The Agenda Says Harry Reid

Immigration Reform Not On The Agenda Says Harry Reid – Harry Reid is walking back on promises he made few days ago about immigration reform during a rally in Las Vegas. Reid said at the time: “We’re going to come back, we’re going to have comprehensive immigration reform now.”
On Tuesday he retreated, arguing that congress already had a lot on its plate. “We won’t get to immigration reform this work period,” the Nevada senator explained after a private weekly luncheon of Democratic senators. “Work period” means that the issue will not be addressed before Memorial Day. The agenda will instead be dominated by financial reform and food safety legislation. These items are less controversial.
Progressives thought they had with immigration a winning issue before the midterms in November. Immigration reform in 2010 could energize Latino groups at the same time alienate conservative democrats and independents.
